Nomadic Reign

KISARU

$6,100.00

This exquisite bespoke coat, fashioned from an antique buggy, lap robe, or carriage blanket, is a unique creation by the Strook Company, a prominent U.S. manufacturer of such blankets from 1890 to 1920. Crafted with luxurious mohair and horsehair, the coat features a stunning cheetah print that flows seamlessly across both the front and back, with solid black wool sleeves accentuated by cheetah-print cuffs. The coat is beautifully trimmed with French scroll gimp and gold scalloped loop tassel trim, complemented by black woven braided cotton and silk threading that enhance the cheetah motif’s rich shades of gold, bronze, and black. Inside, the coat reveals a taffeta pinwheel-style ruched lining, with a tiered tassel trim attached to a channel ribbon in silvers, coppers, and ecru. The clasp is an ornate baroque-style gold-toned relief brass metal closure, hand-sewn with intricate scroll and floral patterns. This design is inspired by Kisaru, a celebrated cheetah from the northern Masai Mara in Africa, known for her exceptional mothering and successful rearing of her cubs. Embracing Kisaru’s protective and fierce nature, this coat is a powerful statement of strength and elegance.

Preserve the Beauty:

Our bespoke coats, crafted from rare 19th-century carriage lap robes, are cherished antiques with a unique history. To ensure their longevity and maintain their elegance, please follow these care instructions:

  1. Spot Clean Only: Gently spot clean any stains or dirt using a soft cloth or sponge dampened with cool water. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing to prevent damage to the delicate fabric and intricate details.

  2. Avoid Dry Cleaning: Do not dry clean your coat, as the chemicals in dry cleaning solvents can harm the antique materials and intricate embellishments.

  4. Handle with Care: When wearing or handling your coat, be mindful of the delicate fabrics and embellishments. Avoid exposing it to sharp objects or rough surfaces.

  5. Professional Restoration: For any significant damage or wear, consult a professional specializing in antique textiles or restoration to ensure proper care.
