Every Nomadic Reign Couture creation begins with a single question:

For founder and creative director Michelle Nichols Assiter, design has never been about following trends. It has always been about preserving history, honoring craftsmanship, and creating pieces that carry meaning long after they leave the studio.

With an instinctive eye for forgotten beauty, Michelle travels across the country in search of rare nineteenth- and early twentieth-century carriage blankets—remarkable American textiles that have quietly survived for more than a century. Where others see an antique
blanket, she sees possibility. A horse waiting to run again. A forgotten landscape waiting to be rediscovered. A piece of history deserving another lifetime.

Every design begins with the textile itself.

Rather than forcing a pattern onto the blanket, Michelle allows each original motif to guide the design. The placement of a horse, the curve of a floral border, the movement of a sporting dog, or the quiet symmetry of an antique medallion all become part of the garment's final composition. No two blankets are alike, and no two Nomadic Reign Couture creations will ever be repeated.

Each piece is then elevated with thoughtfully curated materials—from antique silks and historic French passementerie to heirloom hardware, hand-tooled leather, luxurious natural fibers, and, in select creations, meticulously hand-beaded natural gemstones. Every decision is made with one purpose: to honor the integrity of the original
textile while creating something extraordinary.

Michelle founded Nomadic Reign on the belief that history should not remain hidden away in collections or museums. It should be experienced, worn, admired, and passed from one generation to the next.

Today, she leads Nomadic Reign alongside her daughter, Helena Roy, continuing a family tradition rooted in artistry, storytelling, and American craftsmanship. Together, they create
heirloom garments for collectors who value rarity, authenticity, and the romance of owning something that exists nowhere else in the world.
