This exceptional coat is crafted from an original vintage American carriage blanket, dating from between 1890 and 1930. These historic blankets—often made from mohair, wool, and at times horsehair—served both function and beauty, and now, are reimagined into a singular work of wearable art.
Gilded Huntress features a richly baroque-inspired floral and foliage motif with a striking central medallion design on the back. Two leopards with original glass eyes adorn the front panels, adding a bold, regal energy. The sleeves are made from the original black sections of the blanket, with unique velvet-detailed cuffs in leopard print—adding a modern edge to its historical base.
The collar is trimmed in luxurious emerald, green Mongolian lambswool, offering warmth and visual intrigue. The bottom hem is finished with a clean line, allowing the intricate blanket pattern to continue uninterrupted from back to front.
A discreet hook-and-eye closure secures the coat, while two silk-lined side pockets provide both elegance and practicality. The interior is lined in a silk textile featuring an ornate Chinese motif, accented by two panels of black velvet along the front for added structure and refinement. At the base, a deep red velvet hem and vintage French woven tassel trim in earthy tones complete the design.
