This bespoke coat is a stunning creation made from a rare 19th-century Chase carriage lap robe or blanket, crafted from a blend of wools and horsehair. The design is adorned with two luxurious fox pelts, surrounded by a rich array of flowers, including vibrant daisies and pink peonies. Victorian symbolism shines through with the peony representing prosperity, beauty, and elegance. Large lined hand pockets rest on either side, while whimsical small pockets on the front add charm, featuring tiny daisy embellishments.
The velvet collar is edged with red ostrich feathers and accented with an antique fox pelt. On the lapel, a hand-rouched antique yellow velvet flower with a Victorian button adds an artistic touch. The solid black wool from the original lap robe forms the sleeves, while the cuffs display colorful floral details.
Inside, the coat is lined with sumptuous wine-colored velvet. The inner skirt trim features rich cream silk and a second layer of yellow velvet. Surrounding each coat opening and running along the base is an opulent bisque-colored chenille tassel trim. The back of the coat showcases blooming pink peonies with delicate buds and flora, framed by tiny daisies along the hem.
A silver beetle with turquoise accents, attached to the right shoulder with vintage velvet, adds a magical element to the design, reminiscent of tiny, enchanting creatures in a garden. The coat is named "Revontulet," a Finnish term meaning “fox fires” or “aurora,” evoking the mythical tale of foxes creating sparks in the snow, lighting up the sky with auroras.
