This bespoke coat, crafted from a rare 19th-century Chase carriage lap robe or blanket, is made of wool and likely horsehair, blending history with couture elegance. The front of the coat is primarily solid black, but a striking design reminiscent of a rock wall garden emerges at the base, extending along one side and wrapping around the hem of the back. Two small, whimsical pockets are placed on either side, perfect for tucking away a tissue, pocket watch, or glasses.
The collar is made of rich wine-colored velvet and is beautifully adorned with vintage Scalamandré trim featuring delicate looped silk rope edging. The front closure boasts a Renaissance-inspired gold-toned, engraved clasp, adding an air of regal sophistication.
The back of the coat showcases a vibrant floral bouquet with roses in shades of yellow, red, and white. The double-layered cuffs feature both the antique textile print and deep wine velvet, also adorned with an antique silk ribbon trim. Vintage Scalamandre trim of silk balls and cone tassels, of gold and green, add a touch of old-world elegance. The coat is lined with sage green tufted silk, trimmed with elegant silk tassels and ropes in shades of green, pink, and sage.
