Nomadic Reign
WAPITI
Crafted from an extraordinary vintage Italian velvet tapestry, Wapiti is a one-of-a-kind Nomadic Reign Couture creation that transforms an heirloom textile into wearable art. Richly woven with remarkable depth and luminosity, the tapestry captures an idyllic wilderness where towering forests, rushing waters, and flourishing meadows converge beneath an endless sapphire sky.
The reverse of the coat is dominated by a magnificent bull wapiti standing watch over a crystalline mountain stream, his impressive antlers stretching proudly against the brilliant blue horizon. At his side grazes young deer, introducing a quiet narrative of guardianship, legacy, and the enduring rhythm of the natural world. The sweeping landscape unfolds across the entire back panel, where rocky outcroppings, evergreen forests, and winding watercourses create a scene that feels both majestic and timeless.
The tapestry continues seamlessly onto the front, enveloping the wearer in flourishing woodland scenery alive with autumnal foliage, flowering branches, and tranquil waterways. Every panel reveals another layer of the landscape, allowing the historic textile to flow uninterrupted around the body like a painted panorama. Rich chocolate fox fur frames both the collar and cuffs, lending sumptuous warmth while complementing the tapestry's palette of amber, russet, emerald, and deep cobalt.
Inside, luminous copper silk lining offers a warm glow with every movement, while antique blue and sage tassel passementerie traces the lower interior hem. Plush golden velvet facings frame the opening of the coat, echoing the warm earth tones found throughout the landscape. The exterior hem is finished with an elegant antique tassel fringe in soft champagne silk, creating graceful movement and a refined couture finish.
An exquisite antique silver cloak clasp adorned with brilliant cobalt Czech glass stones secures the neckline, its vivid blue echoing the brilliant sky woven into the tapestry. The richly detailed metalwork lends an unmistakable Victorian elegance while perfectly balancing the grandeur of the surrounding landscape.
Named Wapiti, after the Native American word for elk meaning "light-colored deer," this creation pays tribute to one of North America's most iconic animals. Throughout many Indigenous traditions, the wapiti represents strength, endurance, and noble leadership—qualities reflected in the commanding presence of the great bull standing sentinel over the valley. Yet the inclusion of the young deer softens the composition, transforming it into a portrait not only of power, but of protection, continuity, and life carried forward through generations.
Every Nomadic Reign Couture creation is entirely one of one. No two historic textiles are ever alike, ensuring that Wapiti can never be replicated. A remarkable union of European textile artistry, couture craftsmanship, and the enduring beauty of the natural world, it is a future heirloom destined to be treasured for generations.
