Nomadic Reign

DIAMOND & PEARL

$7,000.00

This luxurious and exceptionally feminine coat is a testament to vintage elegance, crafted from an antique buggy blanket, lap robe, or sleigh blanket by the prestigious Chase Company of New York City. Produced primarily between 1890 and 1920, these heavyweight blankets were designed to provide warmth and stability in open carriages, often weighted at each corner to prevent them from being lifted by the wind. The coat is a striking statement piece featuring two exquisite wild mares, Diamond and Pearl, captured in a moment of close friendship. The detailed portrayal shows the mares galloping along a scenic trail, with one horse depicted in a graceful Palomino hue and the other in a rich chestnut brown, set against a backdrop of golden wheat fields and mountainous terrain. The yoke of the coat continues this scenic motif with delicate pink Dogwood flowers that cascade down the front, while hand-appliquéd blooms add a touch of craftsmanship and detail.

A discreet Dogwood-print pocket is placed on the right side of the coat’s opening, complemented by a regal royal blue frog lock enclosure of woven ribbon, perfect for carrying a pocket watch and chain. The coat's primary bisque color harmonizes with backgrounds of gold, pink, and crimson, highlighted by branches of the Dogwood tree, a symbol of grace, love, and gentleness. The sleeves are crafted from solid black wool mohair or horsehair, with collars and cuffs made from thick, luxurious Tibetan lamb's wool dyed in a matching bisque color.

The hem is adorned with onion tassels tied to a woven band of tiny silks and cottons. Inside, the coat features a stunning vintage Lily Ruben velvet lining in black and pink, with almost embroidered texture, while the trim is a rayon brush trim in pinks, greens, golds, and wine-colored threads. The lower inner lining is made of dark sage-colored velvet, and the cloak-style closure clasp is an engraved gold medal with intricate Celtic designs. The Dogwood tree's deep symbolic meaning, from Christian to ancient folklore, adds a layer of historical significance to this beautiful coat.
